Our employees have come together to collect food donations for local Food Bank ‘Food Friend’. The facility which operates within the SK9 postcode area helps and supports anyone in genuine financial need, with access to free basic food.
We rallied together to donate food items, with the aim of helping those in need at Christmas time. The response to the appeal saw plenty of donations stack up, which were then delivered to the local church, St. Bartholomew’s, which is the hub of the project.
The project was initiated by Wilmslow Parish in 2011 and through the support of Wilmslow Town Council, was expanded significantly in 2014. Although on the surface Wilmslow and the surrounding areas is an affluent one, there is still hidden poverty. Organisers at Food Friend recently confirmed an increasing number of local residents are struggling to provide food for themselves and their families.
Presently they have over 250 household registered with the scheme as well as supporting homeless people within the local area.
Flo Knowles, Project Manager at Food Friend said, “We are grateful to S&G Response for their donation, particularly at this time of year. We rely on donations to ensure we can continue to support individuals and families in distress and in genuine financial need.”
Operations Director at S&G Response, Nik Griffiths said, “As a business we are always looking at ways in which we can give back to our local community. Supporting the local project ‘Food Friend’ has been a great initiative to get involved with and it was great to see so many of our employees donate generously. Our aim was to make a difference to those in need, when Christmas can be a difficult time, and we hope that our support will enable the project to continue with the great work that they do in our local area.”
