We sat down with S&G co-founder and Managing Director Andy Whatmough to discuss building a company, growth so far, and plans.
Hi Andy, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. First up, can you tell us a little bit about what led you to start S&G? Did you go to university? Did you have any significant jobs before starting the company?
What does it take to start a company? What were some of the challenges you faced, and how long was it before you saw a return on all your hard work?
How important was support from friends and family when you were setting up the business?
Has the direction of the company changed at all over the years, or did you always have this in mind for S&G, even in the early days?
S&G growth has been impressive since its inception in 2009 – what are some of the things you attribute the success of the company to?
Your company culture is clearly incredibly important. How do you make sure you attract the right kind of people to join S&G, and what is it about the company that means they stay?
S&G does lot for charity which was recognised at the recent CX awards where you won an award for ‘giving it back to charity.’ What does that mean to you as a company, and what are your charity goals for next year?
What is a typical work day for you? Or is there no such thing?
A big part of your job is strategy – how do you go about making plans for the future and ensuring everything is working well day to day?
Can you tell us about what the next year/few years holds for S&G? Any big plans or goals you can talk about?
How important do you think a healthy work/life balance is? And what do you consider a good balance?
What are some of your interests outside of work?
